AEMTA Region 2 recently sponsored two Escaping Violent Encounters for EMS classes which were presented by DT4EMS founder Kip Teitsort and were held at the Alan Davis Conference Room located at Vital Link EMS in Batesville.  This event was attended by over 30 EMS and hospital professionals, and firefighters.   All who attended reported that this was one of the best classes that had experienced.  The classes were fast paced and filled with very useful and important information.

As we found out in this class, assault on EMS professionals is a nationwide problem that is vastly under reported.  In fact, as an EMT or Paramedic, YOU are more likely to be assaulted on the job than a police officer or prison guard.  Far too many assaults result in injury or even death to the victim.  Unfortunately as we also learned, assaults on EMS professionals are far too often just considered “part of the job”, and are often not taken seriously by the justice system.

Special thanks to Kip Teitsort for leading the effort to bring this problem to the forefront, and for helping making the back of an ambulance a safer workplace.
