Over thirty emergency vehicles proved EMS is more than a job; it’s a calling in Little Rock, Arkansas on May 23rd. The tenth annual parade of lights saw EMS units from through out the state, starting from War Memorial Stadium and ending at the State Capitol. At the State Capitol, participants were treated to a helicopter flyby on the steps prior to going into the Capitol Rotunda. In the Rotunda Governor Mike Beebe presented the proclamation of National EMS week. Also the inauguration of the first five Arkansas Hall of Fame inductees took place. Afterwards participants met at the section of EMS for food, fun, and door prizes. What a great way to celebrate Arkansas EMS! We also would like to recognize the following companies that joined in our annual Parade of Lights for the first time.

  • Faulkner County Emergency Squad
  • Des Arc Ambulance Service
  • Flippin Fire Department
  • Arkansas Fire Training Academy
  • Ozark EMS

Northstar EMS Newest Station Unveiled

During EMS week on May 22, 2012 NorthStar EMS unveiled it’s newest station. The station located on Beebe-Capps Expressway serves as the main station and administration. The 17,000 square foot building sits on 2 acres of land with 5,000 square foot of ambulance bay. The station includes individual rooms for crew members, a large training room, another conference room, dispatch center, large kitchen, and a 150k generator. The station is arguably the nicest station in Arkansas… Way to go NorthStar!

AEMTA Region 5 Update

As your Region 5 Director, we have completed another educational event for region 5. EVE4EMS/Fire, which is a self-defense class for emergency workers. I had 12 people Participate in the class with a capacity of 24. I really wish I could have had more participation. The 12 who took the class learned a skill that none can take away from them and while I hope they never have a need for the skill, it will save them bodily injury if ever needed. I would like to thank all the people who attended for their hard work and dedication. Click here to view comments about the class from Pine Bluff’s Fire & Emergency Services.

Please keep in mind that I have another educational event for Region 5 coming July 18,19, and 20. The class is; Child Passenger Safety and at the end of class you will be a car seat technician able to assist family, friends and anyone else in your community to instill car seats properly. The class is free with lunch provided each day plus 24 hours CEU’s. Where else can you receive 24 hours CEU’s and lunch free? For information contact; Ronald Russell @ 870-692-1927 or email to
