National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training Course

Good day, EMS Owners, Operators, and Providers,

The following email is in regards to the National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training Course, funded by the Department of Transportations, Federal Highway Administration. The National TIM Responder Training Program was developed through the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) and provides incident responders with a national curriculum developed by responders for responders. The training offers a set of practices and advanced standards to enable safer and faster clearance of traffic crashes. The training addresses all aspects of incident response, from the moment the first emergency call is made to the correct positioning of response vehicles and equipment, to a safe work area using traffic control devices, to final scene clearance. The Section of EMS as well as Law enforcement, Fire and rescue personnel, Transportation agencies, Towing and recovery professionals, Communications center and dispatch personnel, Hazardous materials spill response contractors, Coroners, and medical examiners, Public works professionals have been working with the Federal Highway Administration Arkansas Division on supporting this training.

Training can either be held on location through a 4-hour class that can be brought to your service or through a web-based self-learning format that might be more accessible for our EMS providers.

Currently, Arkansas ranks at the very bottom of all states in the number of EMS providers that have taken this course. Arkansas has trained 41 EMS providers in the state with a goal of 3,490.

So on behalf of the Section of EMS and the Federal Highway Administration Arkansas Division, we are asking all EMS Agencies to encourage all EMS providers to take the online National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training Course. This course is approximately 3 hours in length, depending on your individual response rate. This class can be started and resumed at any time and does not have to take in one sitting. Once self-enrolled you will have 6 months to complete the program.

To register for the course please go to https://www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov/course-search?course_no=133126

See the attachment for a Flyer for this Web-Based option. You will need to create an account and enroll in the course. Once enrolled you will receive an email with a receipt for $0, so ignore that email. You will then receive a separate email with the link to the course. Again, you have 6 months to complete.

I know that Arkansas can train more than 41 EMS providers, so I am asking on behalf the Department and our Federal partners, to provide this information to your staff. Also, the certificate and hours can apply to your EMS re-licensure.

EMS Instructor CEU Workshop

The workshop will be held Friday January 27th and Saturday January 28th in Magnolia, Arkansas. Participants can earn up to 12 Hours of Instructor Level CEUs. The new rules and regs now require 12 Instructor Level CEU to renew.

On Friday we will have an evening workshop called “Conquering Our Giants.” We will address some of the giants that we face as training officers and instructors. Greg Brown will be coming down to address the NCCP renewal process. He will explain “what” it is and how to implement it. He will also answer any questions that you have. In order for him to be able to provide the best answer possible, we have included a “Question Form” that we are asking you to submit with your registration. We will forward your questions and concerns to Greg so that he will be able to research them and provide you with an answer Friday night. We will also address other hot topics such as scenario based practical exams, clinical site concerns and test item writing. 4 Instructor CEU
Pre-Registration is not required for the Friday night session; however, for planning purposes it is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

On Saturday, the “one and only KC Jones” will be doing an all day workshop called “Energizing The Classroom.” 8 Instructor CEU
Due to the nature of the Saturday workshop we are requiring participants to pre-register. Once you have registered you will receive an email with pre-class instructions for that session.
Even if you don’t “need” the CEU to renew, this is still an incredible opportunity to network with colleagues, address concerns you are facing and learn new strategies for your classroom! Company Training Officers can also benefit, especially from the NCCP session.
A special room rate is available for only $91 plus tax at the Hampton Inn in Magnolia. Make reservations early to guarantee a room.
If you have any questions you can email me or call/text (870)904-1573.
