AEMTA Instructor Society Meeting Minutes for 8/2/14

Meeting was called to order at 12:03

Dee Shaw, Secretary, could not be reached, therefore, minutes from previous meetings could not be obtained.

Leon Cheatham delivered the Treasurer’s Report. He stated that when he accepted the position, there was a total of $5100 in our bank account. There is now a total of $5197.98 in the account following the Instructor Retreat. Leon asked that we consider turning the funds over to the General AEMTA program.

A motion to accept this report was made by Joe Chappell and seconded by KC Jones.
Millie Allen presented the report for the Best Practice subcommittee. They are looking at the possibility of starting a mentorship program for instructors. There was a mixed reaction from those in attendance. At this point, we were reminded that the Arkansas Dept. of Health Section of EMS holds us accountable for our classes and their success. Amy Berryman from the Section of EMS informed us that they have split the state into regions and announced the names of the EMS Specialist for each region:

Northwest – Eryn Cone

Northeast – Scott Gann

Southwest – Jamie Clarke

Central – Amy Berryman

Southeast – Amy Berryman (temporarily until that position is filled).

Amy also advised us to contact the specialist for our individual region to get to know them.

Dwayne Alseth made a motion to appoint 3 people to look at the bylaws of the Instructor Society and to have a report due 90 days prior to Spring Fling to present any possible changes. This motion was seconded by KC Jones.

Elections were also made during this meeting. The new officers are:

President – Scott Endres, Vice President – David Jones, Secretary – Carrie Steward, Treasurer – Millie Allen

A motion was made by Janelle Johnson to send notices to instructors about their renewal for this society. This was seconded by Amy Cox.

There was a motion to adjourn at 1:00 by David Jones and seconded by Amy Cox.

Timothy Lee Freeman, 56, of Paragould, died Saturday, August 2, 2014, at NEA Baptist in Jonesboro. He was the son of the late Louis Earl and Sara Mae Ladd Freeman. Tim was employed by Medic One Ambulance Service and retired from Emerson Electric in Paragould. He was a member of Reynolds Baptist Church.
Tim was also preceded in death by his brothers,Richard D. Freeman, John M. Freeman and Albert W. Freeman.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Freeman of the home; daughter, Mary Simpson of Paragould; sons, Darrell (Laura) Hyten and Timothy Mark (Arletta) Freeman all of Paragould; sisters, Sarah L. (Dale) Jensen of North Dakota and Elizabeth A. Vanlandegham of St. Louis, MO; brothers, Charles Freeman of Paragould , Ted L. (Mary Pat) Freeman of Florida and William “Bill” Freeman of Florida. Grandchildren, Colton, Jenna, Zoey Hyten, Mallory (Ryan) Lands, Connor Mobley, Cayne Simpson, Chevy Simpson. Great Grandchildren, Karly, Levi and several nieces and nephews.

(June 6, 1953 – July 31, 2014)

Thomas Carlton Baine was born May 6, 1953 in Hot Springs, AR to David and Lois Barnes Baine.

He was an EMT Technician, Fire Chief of Tyronza Fire Department, member of city council and a member of First Pentecostal Church in Tyronza, AR.

Mr. Baine passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, AR at the age of 61.

He is survived by his wife Janice Baine of Tyronza, AR, one son Brandon Baine of Lepanto, AR, one daughter Miki Griffin of Tyronza, AR, three brothers Paul Baine of Gallatin, TN, Tony Baine of Wisconsin and Jason Baine of Parson, TN, four sisters Gail Smithson of Buncombe, IL, Angela Conrad of Parson, TN, Elizabeth Reiter of Linz, Austria and Lisa Messer of Marion, AR, four grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends.

(March 29, 1967 – July 29, 2014)

Trish McCain, 47, of Paragould, died Tuesday at the Med in Memphis. Trish was a member of the Stanford Baptist Church and was a retired Paramedic.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Adams Reynolds.

Survivors include her husband, Brent McCain of the home; children, Cody (Jacklyn) Davis, Jake Smith and Savannah McCain all of Paragould; grandson, Hudson Davis of Paragould; brother, Ken (Rhonda) Freeman of Lincoln, AR; sisters, Carrie Gomer of Paragould and Amanda Wiedeman of Corning.

(September 11, 1970 – July 8, 2014)

Angela Rae Scott was born September 11, 1970 and went home to live with her Lord July 8, 2014.

Angela leaves behind her husband of 20 years Carl, and teenage children Peyton Kaylee, 18 and Jaren James, 14 all of Bella Vista. She is also survived by her parents Leonard (Mac) and Glenda McMurry of Prairie Grove, AR, her sister Trina Alaniz and her husband Jeff Alaniz of Springdale, AR. A niece Sheniah Doss and nephew Braydon Doss both of Springdale AR. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Russa Lou Stout and her husband Don of Wichita Falls, TX and father-in-law Carl J. Scott and his wife Mary Beth of Muskogee, OK. She is also survived by hundreds of students at Gravette High School and co-workers at Gravette Public Schools, Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, and Arkansas ACTE.

Angela graduated from West Fork High School in 1988. She is also a graduate of the University of Arkansas where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1993 and also a Master’s of Science in 1997 all with highest honors. She also received her Nursing Degree from NWACC in 2012 as the distinguished graduate of her class. Angela was also a 4 year member of the Arkansas Razorback Marching Band and Hogwild.

Angela was a Medical Professions and Health Science Teacher for Gravette Public Schools for 19 years. She was also an emergency room RN at Mercy Medical Center. She received many honors associated with the HOSA program at GHS that she created. Her honors include: Gravette Public Schools Teacher of the Year, 1999/2000 and 2008/2009, Arkansas Outstanding HOSA Advisor of the Year, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, National Region 2 Outstanding HOSA Advisor of the Year, 2014, 2010 ACTE National Fellow, Region 4, Who’s Who Among American Teachers numerous years.

Other contributions include: Arkansas Association of Career and Technical Education President 2013-14, Region 4 Nominating Committee 2014-2016, National ACTE Nominating Committee member 2011-2016, Arkansas ACTE Legislative Task Force 2010-2012, Health Science Technology Education Division President 2009-2011, Arkansas ACTE State Board Member 2009-2014, Gravette HS Career and Technical Department Chair 2009-2014, Gravette Public Schools Crisis Team Leader 2009-2014, Gravette Public Schools Crisis Team Medical Team Leader 2009-2014.

One of the things Angela was most proud of was the numerous State and National Awards earned by her students at GHS. Her students earned 281 State HOSA medals, six National HOSA Medals, and 38 Top 10 HOSA National finalists.
